For the first time, Frank Sinatra’s greatest recordings for Capitol Records and his own Reprise Records have been gathered for one stellar collection with insightful track notes written by Frank Sinatra, Jr.

Best of the Best’s chronological tracklist leads with 1953’s “I’ve Got The World On A String,” followed by 12 other classic tracks Sinatra recorded for Capitol between 1953 and 1960, including “Young At Heart,” “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “All The Way,” and “Come Fly With Me,” as well as the Sinatra recording that is the theme of “Married With Children,” “Love And Marriage.” 10 of Sinatra’s best Reprise recordings, released between 1962 and 1980, are also featured, including “Night And Day,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words),” “Strangers In The Night,” “My Way,” and “Theme From New York, New York.”

The Deluxe 2-disc version adds a previously out-of-print and sought-after Seattle concert recording, and is packaged in a lift-top box with an expanded booklet and 6 postcards.

Re: Sinatra: Best Of The Best Deluxe 2CD

It is a disappointing selection with perhaps only "Night and Day" deserving to be on the 2CD. For starters, I would rank all of the tracks on "Only the Lonely" album above the tracks on this selection (with the exception of "Night and Day"). And why is "My Way" on this selection which at best is only an OK tune with poor lyrics (not one for the genuine Sinatra fans). I understand that Mr Sinatra was not too keen on it either although financially it did well for him. In fact it is a shame from the body of great work that Mr Sinatra produced, he could be only remembered for such songs as "My Way" and "Strangers in the Night". The Best of the Best should be those tracks that "musically" are the "Best of the Best".

On re-reading my review, I was over-the-top to say that all the tracks on "Only the Lonely" album were better than this selection (except Night and Day"). I had overlooked that "Angel Eyes" is in the selection and that there are many tracks worthy of consideration such as "My funny valentine", "You make me feel so young", "I've got you under my skin", "The Lady is a tramp", "Fly me to the moon", "Come fly with me". Disc 2 which is a recording of Mr Sinatra in Settle, contains many more worthy of consideration including "One for my baby". There must be at least 50 other songs worthy of consideration such as "It's all right with me", "Come rain, come shine", "I have dreamed", "We'll be together again", "Autumn leaves", anything from the "Sinatra-Basie" (first album) but lets choose "I won't dance", "Imagination", "Mrs Robinson", "Just one of those things", "For once in my life" and what about "Old man river" ... The trouble with cds called "Best of..." is that each fan ends up disappointed as their choice is not selected. The trouble with this selection is that it does contain a number of tracks not worthy of consideration... certainly outside of my personal top 100!
